Bat cradle for knocking in

Now, I may have just been imagining things, but is there such a thing as a bat cradle, where you have a wooden cradle with padding on which you rest the bat as you knock it in? Just wondering, as it can get a bit tiring holding the handle and knocking. I think I recall one being shown in a picture at Laver & Wood, but could be remembering wrongly.

If there is, where could I find one, or get some instructions on how to make one?

You are right, I’m pretty sure Laver had one. I think it was a cross wooden frame at each end  with material to make a hammock like area for the bat. Not sure if it was padded or just the material

Thanks @Red Ink Cricket for confirming I wasn't imagining things! If memory serves me right, you guys prepare all your bats - do you just prepare on the press cradle/bone edges with the handle clamped on the vice?

They go through my knocking in machine and then have the edges and blade boned after final finishing and before stickering.

With the amount of bats you have Chad I’m very surprised you haven’t got your own knocking in machine tbh!

You have no idea - I don't know how much one costs - but if I knocked them all in via the machine, and assume knocking in costs £25 - i think I'd make a net gain!

Low tech here - I just lay an old pillow on my lap, and rest the bat on it.  There's less strain on the hand and the handle that way, but I guess it does soften the impact of the mallet a bit.

I use the low tech option of wrapping the bat handle in a towel yo reduce the impact on the hand i am holding the bat with
