So some of you may have seen that I was sent a bunch of bats to repair for one of the Durham CCC players and in there was this that once I removed the scuff sheet the middle pretty much fell apart, it�s also got a large crack through the shoulder. Basically wasn�t worth the time or money to try and repair. Well so I thought.

So today with a few spare minute and liking the shape I set about making a template of the bat and removed the grip and was taking off the binding when I saw this on the top of the handle. The bat originally has SG stickers although most had been removed. So I could be putting 2 & 2 together and coming up with 10 but possibly could have belonged at one stage to Pujara of India is my thinking.

The bats owner was at Yorkshire a few years ago I believe but mainly as a 2nd team player from my understanding. Anyway it�s allowed me to try and repair delamination although it�s pretty tough with a bat this knackered and I think the best bet maybe to try and get enough pressure from a press overnight.

Anyway specs are 2.5.9 with just binding, 38mm edges and a full profile with a mid/low middle.

Would explain that level of damage to the middle if it was Pujara's!

It's a great conversation piece, if nothing else, but I wouldn't waste much time fixing it if I was you

A few months back I posted pics of one of my bats that had very similar delamination, where slivers would peel up in multiple spots.
Every attempt at glue / clamp / sand / oil would look great, but peel up in different spots after one session. Superglue and facing sheets made no difference.

I'd compare it to a chain, where all the links are very weak. Fix one, and then the next weakest one goes the next time you use it.
More 'traditional' delamaination where all the weakness is in a layer underneath the surface might have a better prognosis.

Shame, because it looks like it would have been a stunning bat in better days!

It won�t have much of my time at present but it will be interesting to work on when times are a bit quite and will most likely just be placed on the wall of my workshop after I have had a few nets with it to see what my repair skills are like on something like this.

As for grains, yea it�s one of those 15 or so dead straight and tight clefts looks lovely on the back of the bat which I�ll share at some point if people are interested.

And more just a curiosity one here. Durham to Suffolk is a fair poke, any reason the Durham boys used you a local repair man?

I used to play with Sean Dickson (only for a season when he first came to UK before he got into Kent CCC set up) and he recommended by services to a lad at Durham. I�m not going to name him but I have no idea if he is a regular or not at Durham and if, when or how much he payed at Yorkshire. That�s how it made it�s way to me and when I shared how much damage etc he said just keep it as he wouldn�t ever use it again.

Very hard to make a laminate post pressing - especially on a bat with a large bow. They are usually done pre pressing if I remember correctly

The delamination is that deep that I don�t think it would be viable even if it�s possible pre pressing. Will just be a display bat on the wall or a net bat every now and then I think

That's amazing. It makes sense though...I have seen other international pro bats that were that light.
