Ashraful Dropped
« on: March 09, 2010, 09:20:19 AM »

I see that he has been dropped for the Test against England, sad as I really thought he was going to kick start the Bangladesh side a few years ago but he seems to have faded quite badly in recent times. I think he has more than enough time on his side to get back to basics and start scoring again, not sure if it is a good sign that they can drop a player with such good potential or not? Strange that England refuse to drop Pietersen even though he has been going through the same sort of batting doldrums.

Would Pietersen play if he were Bangladeshi after this run?

Not likely surely we have better players like Morgan who have been showing what they are capable of in these games...without his reputation I'm sure KP would have been dropped by now.....IMO a name shouldn't automatically guarantee a place in a side  surely form has to be the contributing factor overall?!?

I'd drop him for the T20 World cup, he isn't available for the quarters onwards anyway so let him have a break and only get him back in when he is firing.

Pietersen is only still here as the selectors in charge believe that "every player will come good at some stage". Thats the only reason Ian Bell is still in the team and hasnt really scored big runs for a while.
Selection needs to be far more ruthless in my eyes as it is in other countries. If Pietersen was playing for another nation he would be dropped.

Ashraful has been on the verge of being dropped for ages, although a massive talent he's never fulfilled it and has only shown some glimmers of hope.

If he gets his head right and can play a proper innings then he can go on to be a fantastic player, he's got the shots but also plays far to many silly ones.

Sorry to dissagree, but are you really suggesting we drop someone who averages 50 in test cricket. This is madness. KP is out of form, but he will come good, it only takes one dropped catch to change and innings. Just ask Kiesweter...
I agree with Tom about Ashraful - I think he needs to get his head right

It seems to me that there is a lot of emotionally charged backlash when KP fails. It must be frustrating (most of all for him) to not get the runs but imo he is a big match player and should not be assessed on his performance in tour games in Bangladesh. Sehwag has the same problem. If he is out of form you just have to wait it out. No point sending Viru back to domestic cricket because he performs even worse. They need the big stage to perform. Its frustrating for sure but it only takes one big knock for this species to turn things around durably. Hopefully the England selectors will persist.

Don't know what it is. Yuvraj nicked his other one: http://www.daylife.com/photo/0bTD8pc2kM6nc?q=ashraful

I am supportive of him but he needs some time out of the team, some runs under his belt and his head getting right. I think Ash himself would agree with me.

Ashraful sums up many young sub-continental players. Picked to soon, therefore unable to master his craft in F/C cricket.

Worryingly for Ashraful the new batch of Bangladeshi seem to have more determination and mental strength than he has. To getting back into the Bangladesh side might be a tall order.

The other problem is Ashraful can't seem to bat in a responsible manner. If you see his recent dismissals, there usually very wild shots.
