Twine and knots
« on: March 08, 2010, 11:14:32 AM »

Another question for the batmakers, etc.

What twine is most suitable/recommended for binding handles?

Secondly, having studided the great Mr Millichamps vids when he binds he uses a neat little trick to finish off the binding, appears to add in a small loop of twine to knot in the end? Any idea how this is done? Is there a name for this little knot? Seems to make a lovely clean ending which is what I'd like to achieve.

By the way, is JM still making? as I've seen talk of a 30th annivesary bat, but also talk that he was taking a break for health reasons?

A decent linen twine is best.

Just take a small length of the twine and make a loop, when nearly at the base of the handle whilst binding stop, insert the loop with the head facing down the blade and bind 4/5 more times, then cut a twine leaving a little extra and thread through the loop, pull the 2 ends of the loop at the handle end and it will tuck the twine under the last few layers and cut it flush to hide it as well as secure it.
