Stances of the Surrey players
« on: May 16, 2021, 02:39:49 PM »

This is really interesting, shows the stances and triggers of the Surrey players from a side on angle - there is Burns, Stoneman, Amla, Pope, Smith and Foakes so a great mix.

Watching cricket from side-on is underrated.

Goes to show that there isn’t a correct technique for batting. It doesn’t matter what it looks like as long as it’s repeatable and works.

Not sure I totally agree. It might just be those clips but the players shown, after their prelim / pre delivery movements are done, I’d say there is a fair amount of similarity between them. They may do plenty of other, different movements when getting into that position mind.

It isn’t a very big cross section of people to look at though so understand what you mean.

Jeez, Rory Burns is even harder to watch from the side than he is from front on. Who would have thought it!

Cricket orthodoxy would disagree.

Some of the greats did it their way because it worked for them. Young cricketers should be encouraged to develop their own technique and rigorously test it against different bowling styles and conditions.

Rory Burns is so forward bent, hard to imagine how he can maintain balance
