Nets and improvement..
« on: May 06, 2021, 03:58:05 PM »

How many nets have you had till now for this season and what improvements you feel you've made? Coming in form or there or there about? Much more left to do etc.

Always more to do!

Had about 6 nets so far this year and been working a lot on my setup (grip, stance, head position before delivery) as I feel that's what has let me down in the past.

Definite progress as I've been hitting a lot more balls against decent bowlers, not getting bowled and middling a lot more on the Bola. Fingers crossed it translates into match runs.

Around 10 nets so far. The biggest difference from the last couple of seasons is actually deciding to have a bat at net sessions. For the last couple of years I refused to bat in our nets as they are SO different to how our pitches play. However, this year I decided it would be a good idea to feel bat on ball, and I feel much better for it.

I’m not really working on anything too technical, as I’ve reverted to my natural technique, rather than the GP technique that started nicely but ended up getting me in quite the pickle, to the point where in the truncated 2020 season I took more wickets than scored runs. Instead I’m using them to practice switching my concentration on and off between balls, and watching the ball differently.

Agree with the difference between nets and matches pitches.
I try net as much as possible because the only way for me to know how things at the moment are, be it bowling or batting. Especially as a bowler it's about bowling at right spots and making right decision what kind of delivery to bowl.
Just had a net, think I had 4 nets and 3 games till now and it does show the worth after every net and game.
Never have had 3 pre season games before!

Netted 3 times maybe, batted 3 times. Think its actually helped me this year as not over thinking anything and have  gone 34 no, 28 and a 66 off 47 balls on Saturday. Using a Grade 3 with storm damage too, so maybe the key all along has been to not overthink anything! 😆

That or you've been saving up a big stack of grade 3 gems!

Ha ha, not at all mate. They're all good, this just shows that really. It feels as good as anything I've had, so goes to show its not all grains and perfect willow. It's just felt comfortable and not being able to practice I think has actually helped me too.

Same here - netted 3 times, all outdoors on grass, and I've started the season better than I ever did when I did 10+ indoor net sessions.

I won't do any more nets now this year, I'll just play matches.

TBH I've never really thought winter nets helped that much, they just get you used to the wrong type of surface. I just do them for fun. I'm convinced that indoor nets with bowling machines actively make you worse.

Guys, you will only get something out of nets if there is goal to achieve in the session. All too often we go to nets and simply do the things we've always done, if we do what we always do we will get the results we have always had!

You must have a goal, you must set yourself a scenario to bat or bowl to.

Had 3 net sessions and batted twice at nets but purely to feel bat on ball. Played a sat league game DNB played a Sunday league game and hit 70odd and also played for a social side in an all day game and hit 124*. First ton with a bat Iv made and it’s going superbly. For anyone interested it’s a Grade 3 with about 5 grains, cat paws marks and a hard bar but it’s light, big and pings like a trampoline.

Also my biggest change this year is no pressure on myself. Iv put so much on me to score runs, bat long, bat at the right tempo blah blah blah to what others are saying I should do etc. Now it’s just I’ll bat and play for fun and if that stops I’ll stop.
