I don't agree with the bat limits but there is no way that a professional player should be caught infringing them. A bat gauge costs less than £5.

Hard to say it's Maddinson's fault! Sponsor's let him down there, shouldn't be providing players with illegal eqiupment.

Be interesting to see what the issue was, would only take a few wraps of bat tape to push a 'full spec' bat over the limits - responsibility lies with both sides really

Looks to me on the video it's the spine height that's the issue. Good job they took it off him, can you imagine the carnage which he's have caused due to that 2mm extra!  😆

In fairness, thems the rules. So suppose there has to be a cut off somewhere.

It's entirely his fault as it is his equipment and his responsibility to ensure that it is compliant.

It had been claimed that the exact same bat used by Maddinson had been tested the other week in a RL50 game and it went through the gauge fine. Now either whoever made that claim is talking rubbish and it isn’t the same bat or he has plied it with a boatload of tape which wouldn’t really help him much.

For what it’s worth it’s the only real effect on Durhams points that Maddinson will have done. He’s been a pretty poor overseas player so far.

I have 2 white MCC approved plastic guages and one metal guage made to MCC measurements that I can check bats with....they are not as consistant as you may think. I can get my pro bats to pass through the guages differently.

Umpires are all also different, they don't all pass the bat through the same and any form of resistance on the guage (which can be from the guage not being passed over the bat squarely) is met with an attitude of the batsmen being a law breaker rather than  trying to fit the bat through.

The guages are also rediculous.....I've had a scoop not pass through.

In summary....the guages are not consistent, and neither are the umpires.
