Dream bat make up
« on: September 16, 2022, 08:16:24 AM »

Had a well used laver bat rehandeled and refurbed by Salix and it got me thinking of what combos you would go for to make up your absolute dream bat:

Unsure what the catarogies would be:

Handle
Pressing
Shape
Finishing
Stickers
Customer service

any suggestions for others?

Will enter mines when I'm sure I haven't missed anything daft.

Handle - GM
Pressing - Charlie French
Shape - Scott bat - that I already have based on his JS175 I think
Finishing - Salix
Stickers - Loving the GN Vapour 1.3 at the moment
Customer service - Scott bats or JEDi bats

lol so based on this I'd approach Jonny - Scott bats to pm and manage sourcing this bat..
- Cleft Pressed by Charlie
- Scott bats would source the GM handle - shape the cleft, send it back to GM for handle shaping
- Send it to Salix for finishing
- Then source stickers from GN
- Finally have a coffee with Jonny as part of customer service admiring my bat   :D :D :D :D
- Be out of pocket but still probably pay less than some of these pro bats prices

Handle: Affinity square
Pressing: Aldred - super soft but they don't last as long
Shape: Chase FLC - kinda generic shape but works
Finishing: Salix
Stickers: WCW
Customer service: Any retailer, not had the best experiences going direct to manufacturers.

For me:

Handle feel - Keeley
Handle shape - Older style GM Icon 2010ish
Pressing - Keeley
Shape - oversized duckbill shape, convex spine. Typical SS profile.
Finishing - Salix
Stickers - Newbery Uzi C6 Cadbury edition.
Customer service - One of the guys here, TomTek, Jonny or Chris have always been great.

Handle - Thick and very heavy with one grip.
Handle Shape - Round, all over.
Pressing - Redback
Shape - Canterbury

Like this (Ohh I miss my baby ... this was such nice piece goodness).

Sticker - Can't decide between Bradbury First Gen (Blue and Gold). Nixon (First Gen)

If the manufacturer tells me it was destined for a Pro - and nothing else.

I'll not mention specific brands for obvious reasons, but for me it's just shape, handle and performance which I'd be concerned over. Unless the stickers were really awful, it wouldn't bother me. The same goes for finishing. Obviously i like a shiny new bat, but it soon wears off.

Semi oval, med 12 piece handle
Duckbill profile, low middle
Well pressed, not too soft so I'm spending half my life knocking it in and I'm happy.

A whippy handle would be nice too
