Ollie Pope
« on: June 12, 2023, 02:26:39 PM »

Hi all,

I have an Ollie Pope Hypernova bat. This was part of the first release that GN did. I believe this initial set of 12 bats were made in England. The bat has a shoulder stamp marked 'B' and a number on the handle under the grip that says 91 on top and 25303-42 at the bottom. Any ideas?
Thanks.

Made in India from the sounds of it - the Indian made GNs are of a very high quality as well as the Robertsbridge/Melbourne counterparts. I believe these were released as bats that are very much of the same ilk that Pope himself would use, but just a bit heavy. Enjoy!

I must be behind the times here, It’s a Pope copy bat but he must visit the factory here to get his bats custom made.

If it’s a Pope edition should it not be the same situation?

I’ve clearly missed something here.

Pretty sure a huge number of pros have never been near a batmaker.

Thanks for the comments. I will try to speak with GN. I was specifically given the impression the batch was made in the UK. It is a longer handle shorter blade setup. The pickup and the ping is incredible - I would rate it as good (if not better) than a Keeley Gold.
That is what got me curious as to the origins of the bat. I highly rate Indian bat makers but was keen to try one made by Alex. Oh well....

Surprised to hear that certainly for the Uk internationals.

I’ve just always thought they would visit in person as they may be fussy or even want to choose clefts.

There was a video somewhere of KP only taking his out of the shoring wrapping in the changing rooms when he was with adidas.

Think the pros have as much of a spectrum as the amateurs. Marnus apparently wanders round the Kookaburra factory for hours trying kit, Bairstow basically used whatever he's sent as long as it picks up fine and goes.

Anyone still interested in Pope's shape. The Tempesta 1.1 is the short blade/ long handle replica.
