Nice article I just saw shared on X about Ian Sampson.

Nice article. Growing up near Wakefield there were a lot of Warriors knocking about back in the day, but it was Richard Wensley who owned it and made them back then. See a few kicking about my league, but hardly any really. Still based in the same place though.

Not sure about being one of the last. There are quite a few batmakers in the UK atm.

Somewhat misleading headline though

Keep reading this 'handful of us left' but am sure there's quite a few.

How many 'batmakers' in the UK? To keep it simple as long as you don't just sticker up an imported bat (although getting another UK brand whilst supplying your own willow?), happy to include anyone who has pre handled bats but does the shaping.

Starting with Warrior's Yorkshire doorstep, alone I can think of:

- Scott
- Kippax
- Jedi - now Titan
- Bear Cricket - Don't know too much about who makes their bats
- Viking
- Nixon
- Beaver Cricket

Willow & Wand
TCL (The cricket Lab)
Red ink
H4L
Keeley
Salix
Nixon
Walker cricket
Owens Bats

Plus the obvious and no doubt a few more I’ve missed but there are a few. There are not many that do whole process from willow growing and felling I agree but a bit smoke and mirrors in some ways that article

Warrior don't grow their own willow from what I understand. If we're talking shaping or making, then Bear Cricket and Viking shouldn't be on the list. They're both sticker brands made by other makers on that list I believe.

Ox Bat Doctor
GPT cricket
Cricket Station
White Rose Cricket
Wombat
Chase
WG Willow
Mangled Bats
Crossbat
WCW
Hunts
GM
GN
Hawk
Rob Pack
Williamson & Boucher.
XX cricket
Garard
BT Blades
B3
BTC
Vulcan

Plus no doubt loads more
