SS Platinum or Limited edition
« on: March 08, 2010, 03:57:46 AM »

I am new to this forum and perhaps this topic has been discussed before. but would like to seek your opinion and hear some experiences from the current owners.

I read quite a few posts on SS bats. And I am particulary interested in SS Platinum Reserve grade and SS Limited Edition custom bat. Could you please share your thoughts on -
1. Which one is better in terms of willow quality, ping, pick up etc. I am looking for weight in the range of 2lb 6oz to 2lb 8oz with very light pickup.
2. What is the difference between the 2 bats. Platinum is not even in SS catalog as per their website.
3. As far as I know (at least based on my previous inquiries) both are made to order and are not produced in bulk. Who are the best merchants. I would like it to be shipped to New Jersey, USA. I am particulary looking for good customer service, especially when you are paying upwards of USD 250. For Platinum, one of them I found on this site was onlinestockist.com. Is he really good? For Limited edition, I guess SS is the only option. Please advice.

Appreciate your inputs.....

Hi CrickFreak,

As far as I know the willow grade is the same for the Platinum or Limited Edition, slightly different shape to them. For delivery to you in the USA go direct and order from their website, many will do the same and then claim to have bought it direct, cut out the middle man.

Second that.
No one person selling bats here will offer better service than going direct to the company.

Brimble - we got destroyed by your boys yesterday........we did have one penisoner and a bloke of 50 with ADHD playing......not that i'm making excuses, the better side won.

Shame i wont be playing against you.......talk on the field was that Brimble's not the bowler he was, sounded like they were sending you out to the pastures (2nd's).

By the way - used the Pink Peril in full blooded fury in nets last night.......now i see what all the fuss is about, sounded like a shotgun when it came off the middle.

They say that every year, but the ability to play beats the ability to talk.....

Hi CrickFreak - welcome to the forum!
Platinum will (in general) have better cosmetics in terms of # of grains and a cleaner face. But they should both be Grade 1. And in terms of performance it should be immaterial. A couple of people on this forum do pick very nice SS willow direct. Asad and Yash are pretty hooked in to SS and have provided some stunning bats as you can see elsewhere in this forum. That being said there was a post recently of a guy in Australia who bought direct from SS and got a marvelous bat. Snoop around a bit to get the best deal but either way you can't go wrong with SS. In my mind they are one of the best bats going around at the moment at any price range ...from under £100 (blank G2 from Asad) to £130-140 (Ton LE / Matrix) to £190 (Platinum).

Are you looking for the stock SS shapes or custom profile?

Agree with Str8bat here - you cant go wrong for the price with an SS.
I think you are better off either going direct to SS or getting a bat through a retailer, I'm not sure if Yash can offer the same services/warranties etc that an established retailer can such as Asad.....however i have been lead to believe that he has very good links with the head honcho at SS.

Shilly,
Why go direct to SS? There is now an official UK supplier. Some people on here have apparently been doing business with him recently. Just look at SS website. And no, I'm not him.

ICC only have 6 bat models and have hardly got them into stores, VKS has the very best range of SS in the UK and would be my first port of call but if you wanted a model that was not being sold in the UK I'd use the SS website.

Of course there are many people selling SS in the UK who do not need to buy from ICC such as Yash here on the forum, he can get you any model of SS directly and calls Jatin himself to get the bats made for customers.

Hi fella i have a good friend who has a SS Platinum which he got from Assad and i have to say it is the equivalent of any bat i have seen so far and it was great money, Assad is one of the partners is Uzi sports and he is true to his word so far, and if you had any problems he would give your money back. But dont rule out bat makers such as Andy at SAF cricket or Gary at Redback or Robert Pack they all have reasonable websites and offer super value for money and ship anywhere worlwide, but those SS bats are damned good.
