Crazy refurb price
« on: October 22, 2024, 10:07:23 AM »

I know willow and bat prices are going up all the time but not sure how these refurb prices can be justified?

£75 for a refurb and that doesn't even include a toe guard...

Probably about in line with their bat prices. Lovely stickers, very decent bats, crazy prices.

Absolutely this is what I generally do, was posting more to see what others thought rather than as a customer as I don’t think I’ve ever seen a refurb cost of more than £50.

Personally would be happy to pay 45ish every couple of years if I like a brand, to get the stickers etc have it looking like new. Did this with keeley a few times. £95 though (if you want the toe guard) seem bonkers

Where do you live, 1987?! 😆

Cheap that, fair play. No doubt in different circumstances in terms of set up, tax, VAT, etc though.

There's lots of places offering refurbs and repairs, some a lot better than others (look up tauntonbatdoctor on Insta! 🫣). So, is this good value? Maybe not, but I'm sure it'll be done right. They may sub it out, they may not want refurbs and so if they get some set that price, fair enough. If they don't, they may not care.

Refurbs and repairs done right can be a fair bit of work, plus there are facilities, premises, utilities, grips, stickers, sanders, machinery, polish, sandpaper, binding, glue, scuffs etc. Not too mention expertise, which in itself doesn't come cheap.

I'm not saying it's good value, but if you feel the job you do is worth it and people are willing to pay it, then it is what it is.

There is a saying in the entertainment industry that you never say no to work, if you don't want the gig you simply price yourself out of it.  That is the impression I get from some the prices being bandied around for refurbishment work.

Fair play to him but the only way this works is if the lad doesn't value his time highly. But if its something he enjoys doing its going to be a little bonus pocket money.

And agree that those WCW prices are purely done as its a hassle they don't need/ want.

Same prices as WCW or £95 for a re-handle. As has been said never turn down work just price yourself out of it or make a tidy mark up for work you don’t want to do.

As @jonny77 mentioned there are variables between extra pocket money returns and established business doing it but mine are £30 half refurb ot £50 full with new stickers, scuff, grips, all repairs etc, full tax paid etc and I would say on average 90mins work once glue has dried etc on full clean up and 45-60 on half.

WCW price themselves at the top end of the market in terms of branding etc so goes with the territory that the prices reflect that, same with M&H. Does this mean they are better than a refund from myself, Vulcan, Scott cricket or some of the great independent repairers out there? Certainly not
