Wish they never changed the bat shape.....
« on: October 27, 2024, 09:32:51 AM »

Out of curiosity, which bats do people think should never have been changed when relaunched years later?

A few come to mind

1/ Newbery Mjolnir - loved the original shape from the 90s, didn't get on with the modern shape from the 2010s
2/ GN Dynadrive - my fav from the 1990s, didnt like the remake from the 2000s
3/ Slaz V800 - loved the double eye original version, didn't much care for all the subsequent versions
4/ Kookaburra Ridgeback - loved the original double scoop from the 1990s, didnt like the subsequent teardrop version, don't mind too much the UK retro version from 2024 with the twin scoops.

Any others?

I was always intrigued by the 90s Slazenger V12, which I saw a fair few people using at the time. Some similiarities with the scalloped toe area as the Symonds Super Tusker, which I've never seen in person. Been trying to dig out photos  of the old V12 online so I can recreate one myself.

GM Maxi was a thing of beauty.

Just reminded me of another.... the GM Diamond from the 1980s/90s, with the diamond shaped scoop on the back, I remember that it looked soooo different and cool back then, don't know how it went though. Scoops were all the rage back then (my personal favourites were the GN Dynadrive and the twin scooped Kookaburra Ridgeback). Much more innovative and nicer looking IMO than the Ben Stokes modern "interpretation".

I found this GM Diamond in storage at our club, is this what you are thinking of? Hopefully the link works.

I also loved the Dynadrive, was desperate for one after watching Lara use it at the 1992 WC :)

Thats
Thanks @Tomp -  that's a nice looking bat! The one I'm thinking of was very similar, but had a diamond cutout scoop at the back (think GN scoop but the scoop and profile is all angular). Haven't seen many of that scooped version out there since the 90s, but looked nice in the shops back in the day.

Me too, it was Lara, Gus Logie, Jimmy Adams, maybe David Boon at one stage(?), plus our best batter in our school team had one, and sent one flying over the pavillion once. That was it, I was in love #firstlove!  :D
