It is responsible for the maker to not offer stickers - for both resale and for reputation.
That doesn't mean that you will not get a bargain.
I remember getting a suspected storm damaged H4L a few years ago - must be around 8-10 years ago.
It was blank due to the possibility of breakage, but I got it for a bargain price.
Because I wanted stickers and had the matching softs at the time, I got some decent Kookaburra stickers elsewhere and applied them. I have used it as 1 of 2 match bats every year since then, and it is still performing well.
I have semi-retired since last season, but it is still a very good bat which performs well. So it has absolutely paid for itself many times over!
Obviously not all suspected storm damaged bats will last this long. So as long as you realise that the life expectancy of these bats are probably limited, then just enjoy it.
That’s a lovely story. And long may the successful bat continue!
I can imagine it being really pleasing when there is a break in play finding the ball youve lost, to just casually lean on the bat with satisfaction, to turn round and say to wicketkeeper, this isnt a kookaburra, its a H4L I got 10 years ago for only £xx because it was deemed as storm damaged 😎🤣🤣
Were you given any maintenance tips or even knocking-in tips at the time?
Out of interest. A question more for the batmakers, when you recognise a storm damaged bat what is your process of tackling it? Is the batmaking process treated as normal or is it given some extra preferential treatment? Are most clefts too far gone to sell?
Have you ever kept one for yourself to use?
For our OP, I can understand from a retailer & brand point of view its best to keep the bat blank. Word of mouth is so important nowadays. If everyone knows the story behind the bat they understand, but so many voices could be telling the wrong story on social media. Bit of a shame that they didnt meet you halfway and offer some ‘this bat was refurbished by’ type stickers.
On the other hand, you could have lots of fun making your own stickers or changing them every season.
Hopefully itll go well beyond a decade for you too.
Feel free to do a review of the bat on here after its first year already…😃
