Why is there a difference in palms in these gloves?
« on: June 17, 2010, 08:56:56 AM »

Hi all,

Saw Asad talking on Buzz's For Sale gloves thread that Indian made gloves in Mens are Equivalent to UK Small mens. Also, browsing through both Online stockist and Uzi Sports this morning saw that both palms of the SS Test Pittards Blue Versions for 2010 were different, why are they?

Pictures below:

Would just like to hear your thoughts on why these palms are different? And perhaps is there a difference in quality of the overall glove.

Thanks

The bottom pair of gloves have pittards cougar palms, used on Newbery sps gloves. The top ones look like Pittards armoutan palm use on Kahuna 1000 and GM LE gloves. I have used both and prefer cougar palms.

Not sure we they would be different, maybe different suppliers? Or are they all made in the same place?

There is no pittards tag on the top, also no such thing as indian pittards, maybe just leather mocked up to look the same.

Just looking in more detail, the genuine amourtan palms are much darker. Just look at the GM LE's. Suggesting that the top gloves have fake pittards.

Pittards leather is only made in the UK and has treatments to allow the use of softer more supple leather in gloves without wearing out quickly.

The softness and suppleness is down to the tallow content (fat) in the leather and when our hands sweat the acid and moisture will remove some of the tallow. The more often this happen the stiffer the leather becomes until it is a problem. The other main problem is that the softest leather will rub and wear out quickly against the grips, especially Octopus grips.

The 2 main treatments that Pittards offer is a water proofing and a ceramic coating of the micro fibres. This prolongs their resistance against the 2 degrading problems. They cut a pattern into the leather for aesthetic reasons and people think this means Pittards, it doesn't, it can be copied but the processes cannot. They is a world of difference between real and copied Pittards so don't get caught out.

Does this therefore that there is only 1 type of Pittards as shown in the Uzi Sports versions above? What about GM Original LE Gloves and Kookaburra Kahuna 1000 gloves? Are these genuine Pittards leather gloves or mere copies of the real thing?

Also is there any way of reducing the stiffness of the leather palm on a glove?

GM and Kook use genuine pittards. There is more than one type. The GM and Kook use wrx1000 armoutan leather and the newbery and the tagged ss gloves use cougars. Look on the pittards website there are loads of leathers

Different dexterity?

Sorry mate I meant one pair the index finger is silver rather than white on the other pair. Also it looks like the Camo on the top one has stitching on the edges whereas the other pair has no stitching

They look like the sort of difference between puma 5000 and 4000, except they both have pittards, the whole design and colour and stitching looks better on the top one imo. but could just be the pictures...

They are probably 2 different editions, 2009 and 2010 or something like that.
