Travelling to Games
« on: May 30, 2010, 10:17:19 PM »

Just thought I'd bring this up, how far does everyone have to travel to games?

This weekend coming up I will be travelling from Minehead-Bristol (2 Hours+) on saturday. And on sunday, Minehead-Street (1 Hour and 30 Mins). It's a nightmare living so far away, anyone else have this problem?

Cheers

we play all the time in bristol and bath. this week we have Bristol West Indians, but we have/will be playing:

Lansdown, Old Bristolians Westbury, Stapleton, Brislington, Midsomer Norton, Clevedon and Bedminster. And the other away game in our league is 1 hour away, Chard.

It drives a lot of players away from the club as people don't want to travel, but we just try and make the journeys as enjoyable as possible (assisted by alcohol.....)

i bet its great only having to travel that far Tom. There are a lot of big teams in Taunton, but they tend to be in prem  1 or 2....

I travel about 45 minutes to home games and anything upto 90 minutes for an away game.  Bit of a pain as i cant always enjoy a drink after the game, but i find it quite a good way to get in the mood before a game and chill after it.

Praful's not as good as his brother who got 184 and a 5-for Saturday ;)

Our overseas player is friends with Praful (the guy who played for Mumbai Vs. England) and scored 40 only to be bowled by Anderson.

Play in the Wetherby League and I don't think we have to travel for more than 50 mins for any match. Nothing that local though, always 20-30 mins.

Same kind of travelling when I played in West Sussex for Ifield. We were based in Crawley, in the north but it was no more than an hour to games on the coast or in the South Downs.

Playing in the Thames Valley/Home Counties League is a different matter entirely - it's not just the distance (Stevenage to Basingstoke for example) but the traffic. Played for Marlow approx 20 miles outside London, travelling into West London to Teddington - no more than 30 miles as the crow flies. We allowed 2 hours and most of us made it in 2 hours 30 mins, one guy took 3 hours 30 mins thanks to a burning car on the M40. The Home Counties League and the feeder leagues of the TVL, Cherwell,Saracens Herts cover a huge area though - bucks, berks, oxon, beds, herts, hampshire, west london.
