20/20 Tournament
« on: June 03, 2010, 08:41:12 AM »

Hi - I need some inspiration.  I was organising a 20/20 competition with 6 teams.  We were going to have 2 days of matches, groups of 3 on the first day, with the top 2 going through, then semi finals, and final/3rd place playoff on the second day.  One of the teams has now dropped out.  Anyone got any ideas on a structure for the competition now that I have only 5 teams?  Ideally I would now like to do this over 1 day only.

Round Robin tournament. Every one plays each other, top two play each other in final, 3 and 4 play each other in 3rd place play off. Hope that helps

a round robin would be best but shorten it to 15/15 or 10/10 otherwise you may not fit all the matches in, unless you have 2 pitches?

Cant beat a good sixes tournament in my opinion (thats what my club do)... 5 overs per side, 6 men, full size boundaries, and lots of drinking! If your aiming to do a serious competition, I reckon 10/10 is a good idea. Although, it would have to be an early start.

We've got 2 pitches, and the day earmarked is the date of the football world cup final so we'll need to start early and finish early.  Am tempted to lean on one of the teams to withdraw, and then we can just have semi finals, and finals.

I totally agree with h4s, sixes tournaments are great! Well worth a go if you feel you dont have the time for 20/20 with the shorter times. Also means more cricket played, more opposition, more of a go and more socialising! Only downside is its a hell of a lot more running!

Could you not invite another team?
