Buying a custom made bat
« on: June 08, 2008, 10:11:20 AM »

Not sure if this has ben discussed before, but what is everyone's opinion on buying a custom bat, should you visit the factory and watch it made or just order it? What are the benefits of either. also are there any small companies offering different criteria like shape of handle, material of handle or width of grains? Would much appreciate some views, Thanks.

Of coruse its best to visit the factory then you can see and advise the batmaker about how you would like your bat made. But most batmakers are talented enough to be able to make a good bat with you supplying details over the phone.

If you live near your chosen batmaker i would definitely visit, its extremely interesting seeing a bat made up close up.  You'll be able to choose the willow, pick up the bat along the way as its being shaped and ask for changes if required.

Ordering over the phone/via email you will still get a decent bat made to your specification as the batmaker knows what he's doing and if your not happy they will bend their back to sort out any problems.

Best thing you can do is contact a few batmakers which will give you an idea how they work and what they can offer.  There is plenty out there to choose from!

Dont think it matters really as long as you tell the bat maker exactly what you want can't see their being a problem with getting it sent to you.

I was not able to visit the bat maker at Bulldog but I sent Kieron some emails with my specs and he was willing to send me pics of a number of posible bats, I chose the one that I thought looked best and with his advice pinged best.

Think with custom made you cant really go wrong

Buying one from a group is not custom made. It is no different to buying from a shop.
