Heal Pain
« on: October 26, 2010, 09:28:50 AM »

I have suffered from a sore left heel at the end of this season - (landing foot when bowling)

It is still painful now to touch

Does anyone else suffer with the same ailment?

Any suggestions?

go to the Dr or the Pharmacy?

alternatively you should look at the shoes you are wearing to play in and you may have to upgrade. If you use orthotics, if they don't fit into your shoe properly that can really exacerbate the issue. Sounds like you have a shoe problem as you have a bad back too and having the wrong shoes can cause back/knee problems.

I'm not a bowler so not the best person to ask. I use Asics Gel Gully II shoes which are ideal for me a someone who "sits in the armchair" and opens the batting.

what type of bowler are you will depend upon what type of footwear is required. QUicker bowlers look for ankle support from the boots as they are relying on a big run up etc

If you are suffering back and heel pain, I'd suggest you might want to go and have a session with a bowling coach. It may very well be your shoes causing issues, but back pain is often the symptom of an unbalanced bowling action or stress being induced by the way you twist in delivery.

If you try and bowl as fast as you can all the time, you often will not be bowling efficiently and this may lead to your problems.

On the feet side, most bowling shoes now include some form of heel cushioning, which may help with your issues, but your heel issues may also be a symptom of bowling action problems.

Actually, reading about your lower back pain, it sounds as though twisting about your hips may well be the problem. At a guess I'd suggest you probably run in to bowl, and then deliver the ball with your legs in a classic side on bowling position while twsting your upper body to deliver from a more front on position. Don't know whether I'm right, but I'd suggest that getting on and seeing a coach first up may resolve this, then Physio for any remaining issues.
