How does International Players Sponsorship work?
« on: November 14, 2010, 08:27:00 PM »

I was having a light hearted debate with my brother yesterday and both of us didn't reach to a conclusion. So I wanted to know how does international players sponsorship works?

I mean are the bats provided to them by the company are they free of cost? For instance, look at Strauss are the bats (and other equipment) provided to him for free of cost?

Also do these company pay the players? If so how does paying system works?

Pardon me if this has been discussed earlier :(

Thanks

Having been offered one recently they wish to be paid for using the products you provide them, they are also looking for the kit to be provided FOC in order for carrying out the marketing of the brand by wearing it

i would think big companys pay big money for international players to use there kit.

as it improves bat sales alot.

and gets them seen on the tv.

Adidas are the exception to most cricket brands tho as they have an almost bottomless marketing budget as cricket is their major revenue stream

There's a retainer fee, then bonuses if they play a Test or reach a landmark (100s, etc) bonuses vary in value as do retainers depending on the quality of players.

For kit they have usually around a 3-5k account to spend on gear. Everything is charged at RRP.

Why are you interested to know?

The agent of the player and the bat company will sort out payment terms. There isn't a one sized fits all.

Would you say players earn more from their various sponserships or there "wage" from there boards not after figures just asking on average

The first cricket box was used in 1874.  The first cricket helmet was introduced in 1974. So, it took 100 years for men to twig that their brains were also worth protecting.

Impossible to say, as such a gulf between players and respective boards.

Flintoff would earn more, as would KP. A less marketable cricketer such as Michael Yardy probs wouldn't.

What would be a century bonus for a player who is a bowler and unlikely to get a century?

I always thought they had an allowance to spend on kit i.e £3k plus a contract payment...
