Seeing as the Beijing Olympics is quite a good bit over, what about putting it in a archive section?
You could then make new sections for big events like that, then after a while put them in the archive section.

would agree with that suggestion, you could also put some very old topics in the archive aswell such as really old for sale/swap topics as no one reads them

I dont own the forum... but Tom doesnt mind what I do really (within reason obviously)

Leo can do as he wishes with regard to the forum really, he has set most of it up. Yes I own the site along with the forum but he's able to make changes (good ones!) to both, administrate the forum and it's how he earns his money :)
