It is grade 3 but I would pay more for that than most grade 1's, you have to understand that the heartwood content has lowered the grade because it is a visual grading. But it has very tight, even and straight grains and will play better than any other type of willow. And after all, we only care about scoring runs when we bat, right??? And clefts of this nature are 1 in 250 clefts.

My Laver Firefly, �220, is the same and only has 16 grains, it goes like Clarkson in an Aston.

yeah thats what i was thinking when you said about more than 10% heartwood cant be grade 1, well one things for sure if i ordered a grade 3 bat and got that i would be happy!

Heartwood let me explain a few things to you about it....

- Close grained red willow [heartwood] was favoured by W. G. Grace and others for its superior driving powers and mamoth hits. By the end of of the 1800s the fashion had shifted to almost all white wood cricket bats this had no real foundation other then from the salesmans point of view that a white bat probably �looked� better in a sports shop window

Ok now you know that - How wood looks is distinct from its ability to hit a ball.... what matter is whether the tannin stains of heartwood disintergrated or the strenghtened the fibres of the willow. therefore in the 1800s' in the knowledge that a red bat played better then white. A number of timber willow merchants were asked the question.... and it was a case of supply and demand.... That is, there is no point in selling something there is no demand for because white willow is what looks best in sports shops....

To be honest willow grading would be better if it ignored Heartwood as if that was all sapwood it would be priceless. My new bat, Norb back me up here, has 40mm edges for a dead weight of 2.10. I'm in love... but it would be perfect if it came close to looking like this one.

Yep it was and Talisman could of fleeced me for a lot more bats if it wasn't so damned cold..... by the way apologies for the shocking English in my last post but I think you get the idea

I spoke to a guy at pro4sport today and he said they are receiving a shipment of 2009 grizzly softs in about 4weeks, colours available will be blue and pink as previous but green as well.
