i really dont understand the point of double sided bats, i think i would rather have one good side than 2 rubbish sides. Cricket bats started out flat and it took 300 years of evolution to get where we are now so why go back to something which was tried and didnt work

Simply because James Laver likes nothing more than a challenge, James likes to push his batmaking skills constantly looking at new ways to develop cricket bats, hence the prototypes he works on. And surely if these types of bats have failed in the past, that is a good enough reason to work on them again using modern techniques and see what can be achieved. There's certainly something in it, both James and Stu at GN are working on them, all be it in slightly different concepts.

How is it so heavy when it doesn't have a spine?

The entire bat looks to have the same thickness about 20mm by the looks of it? Whereas a normal bat has thinner shoulders and toe. Also the cleft may be quite dense as I cant see why he'd use a really light cleft for a bat that might not work ;)

James Laver was on the Dilmah Tea Party a couple days ago (show during tea time in NZ test matches)
