Longer Blade Bats
« on: January 23, 2011, 10:39:31 PM »

One for the taller members and all batmakers on here...
Just wondered is there any recommendation at a certain height someone should use a longer blade bat? Ive used a standard length blade for a while and have not had any issues as such but could lead to problems such as yorkers etc... Anyone found it difficult through a change from standard to long blade with middle positions?

Ive heard Gayle uses a 2 inch longer blade! Must be a brute of a bat!

I've a few lhlb bats and I really notice the difference in yorkers and in stance waiting for the delivery.  I'm 6'5. If the batmaker is good, and both matt h4l and nick m&h are, then it will have a fine middle and good pick up.

I'm just over 6'3 and can happily use a SH or LB.
So I'm sure it's around 6'2/3 that they say you can start to use LB bats.

I think most of the aussies using long blade bats. This is just through viewing I notice alot of the bats look like they are quite long, and longer than natural. (I.E - Steve Smith, Shane Watson)

I am 5'10" and am planning to use longer blade this year. I got CA 1200 from Newzeeland, which is used by Jacob Oram, very nice bat But I am not sure if I should use LB or not. I am very happy with my Laver and wood But want to try LB. What would you guys recoomend?

James laver has a sizingguide on his website. If you've not used one before, lb will feel odd.

Start using the LB in the nets to see whether you agree with it, and whether it feels right, and then if it does start using it out in the middle

i used to have a slazenger ultimate xtream with the long blade years ago (about 12 years i think). im only 5 foot 8 and didnt have any problems with it, infact i loved it...was gutted when it was "lost" when i took it in for a refurb!! i found that it was miles better for driving due to the longer middle.
