Yeah but leading you team to a World Cup final, and winning it may put him in contention

Fair enough, but his performances as a whole were very, very average

sorry - Big Kevin...

I need some more tea!!

And Langer - Dhoni captaincy throughout was pretty good - remember his bowling attack wasn't that special - and being a quality player is about when you perform as well as just consistency.

and it is calendar year so the ashes don't count (or Cook and the forgotten man Trott would be MILES ahead of him)

I agree he is a very good player and also performs despite a huge workload.

Just quickly back to the left and right handed thing...

I worked with a guy who broke his arm, his writing hand, and taught himself to write left handed, then taught himself to write with both hands at the same time and then he could sign his name with his right hand writing forward and his left hand writing backward...at the same time...and both signatures looked identical..like you were looking in a mirror...weird...and he was 7 foot tall and weighed 170kg..man mountain...I don't think he fully evolved from caveman

I agree it is really between him and Trott (Cook has no chance). I just had a look at the cricket schedule for this year, and England has alot of cricket, so Trott might edge ahead!

I think that Watson is a better all round player than Trott, maily because he can bowl and is a better t-20 player

I think Trott has been top top class many did not rate him but he has something not many have a desire to bat and bat and bat.

I just found this on cricinfo: http://www.espncricinfo.com/bangladesh-v-australia-2011/content/current/story/510566.html

It's details and stats about his innings. All of Watson's sixes were on the leg side, and only 38 of his runs were scored on the off-side, the rest were on the leg-side. He also holds the record for the 3 highest scores in ODI's for a team batting 2nd. There's heaps more stats in it.

Great Knock!!!

Surely of all the astonishing stats about the knock, the most remarkable is that it only took 26 overs to get within 15 of the world record. Got to go down as the greatest one day innings.

I agree! I have a few Indian friends who were dissing the knock simply because he wasnt Indian and how Tendaulker's and Sehwag's knock'a were better. Both were good, but neither of them were even close to scoring at the rate that Watson did, let alone close to hitting 15 sixes! Some people just don't get it, ahah :)

Watson was at it again today, only 72 off 40 this time. It is a shame beacuse they were batting first this time and he could have gotten that 200, lol.

Sorry I can't agree - I think Viv's 150 in a world cup final or Gilchrist's 150 in a world cup final are much "greater innings" compared to a slog fest against a load of pie chuckers...

I am not saying it wasn't a wonderful display of hitting or that he isn't a quality player - just that you should put this innings into perspective.

I think that's a fair point actually Buzz. It was one of the greatest displays of pure hitting and just brutalising the bowlers, but the question is would he have been able to replicate this effort against India/Sri Lanka or any other top international team. ???

Still takes nothing away from his innings, great knock!
