Trott so voted anyone else as he is the only one with a decent record at opening

Buzz for me, I spent most of the weekend in bed with man flu reading his survival handbook on batting...

Only one question...To Trigger or Not To Trigger!!

Have added Trott - although I think they will stick with him at 3.

this wasn't meant to be a Buzz ego trip thread - that was meant to emphasize that no one has a clue who would be best!

JNC86 - Go for a massive trigger from outside leg to outside off.

Think I may try that in nets tomorrow...might do a quick 360 spin on one foot at point of delivery, see how that goes down

i would have liked to see Kieswetter open, but even more so Tresco

out of that current list id probably go with bell, i think he has the technique to open and the temperment....

i wouldnt change Trott as his current position is working well for him and the team

Just a question guys? Why was Cook not in the initial squad? England historically have fallen in to the trap of playing bits and pieces cricketers in their limited over teams. Its refreshing to see this time round they have specialist bowlers in their squad with the exception of a couple.

Yardy, Swann , Broad can certainly bat but they are not specialist batsmen. Another issue is I don't think they have well defined batting roles. I think they see themselves as a rescue operation if England batting collapses.

Opener you have a point - everyone said Trott wasn't a ODI player and look at him now

I would also like to know the answer to cook, i find it hard to see why a batsmen in such fine form was dismissed from the squad so easily.....

Strauss was also considered as not cut out for ODI's a year or so ago and now look at him

Look at Hashim Amla. I rarely see him playing the ball in the air but his strike rate is close to 90 if I am correct. You don't have to hit in the air to get runs and as an opener with the field up you only have to find the gap. I remember there was talk of how Jayawerdene did not hit the ball in the air but still could score quickly.
