Warny on England,Monty and Prior...
« on: December 09, 2008, 08:50:03 PM »

Just read this said by Shane Warne when asked about Monty Panesar...

"Ive said before he might have played 33 tests but thats not right hes actually played one test 33 times. He bowls the same way all the time, he just waits for the batsman to get himself out!"

"Matt Prior is no good. I dont rate him at all. He couldnt catch a cold mate. If I was bowling with Prior behind the stumps I would be thinking Oh No!"

In my opinion Shane is 100% correct about Panesar hes not good enough to be Englands number one spinner, he has no plan B or C which every great bowler needs when things dont go their way!

On the subject of Prior I feel the words are a little harsh... maybe its just mind games before the Ashes?
Your thoughts please ladies and gents...

What is that fool on about! Monty has a Test Economy of 2.83 if he can restrict the batsman the wickets will naturally fall, I dont think its a case of the batsman getting himself out - its a case of Monty making the batsman make a mistake.

Ill admit hes probably right about Prior, whenever theres a nick and hes there my heart skips a beat! A nick when Alec Stewart was keeper usually signified a wicket a nick when Prior is there is like a 50/50 chance! Although Prior can be a destructive ODI batsman so I can see why the selectors play him.

He's got a point regarding Monty, he does lack variation he should model himself on Vettori, Monty bowls at the same pace all the time, he needs to work on varying his flight and speed which will in turn correspond with more drift and potentially an arm ball. Prior has improved a lot with the gloves, he's not by any means the best keeper in England, but the complete package batting included, he is up there with a select few. His problems are in his head, with both batting and keeping he lacks concentration and this results in him making basic errors, with his batting he has the wrong mind-set completely, the pinch hitter roles goes completely to his head, when he went away and made runs for Sussex, he batted properly, picked the right balls and played good solid innings, when he gets back into international cricket and is told to pinch hit, he forgets everything he would normally do and he tries to hit everything out of the park, a little bit of control and he could be very good. However he is only filling in for when Steve Davies breaks through and takes over, he is a immense talent with both bat and gloves, I have been speaking to him regularly recently about various things, and he is looking forward to the winter tours with the performance squads  and hopes to impress further, I think it is only a matter of time until he is in the side.

Steve Davies???

Craig Keiswetter will be the England keeper for a while, trust me on this.

Monty is no Warnie but who is? he is number one here and getting better so lets keep him until someone better turns up.

What is Shane selling, he is a corporate whore, selling his fat face to beer, poker, cheesey wotsits and anything with a pay cheque. Great cricketer but an idiot off the pitch, I've got a key to his flat in Ocean Village, maybe I'll pop in one night and nick his diet pills...

Monty is the new wave Fred Titmus. An english 'spinner' without Plan B.

Well at least he has a Plan A, something your selectors are lacking in the spin department Art...

I got 2 wickets for 6 runs in 9 overs a couple of weeks ago in charity match bowling off spin, maybe I'm a chance.

Perhaps Australia has now had its turn, but then again maybe not. Not too many spinning wickets down here and the batting at all levels generaly belts spinners anyway. hoses for courses.

Why does Warny come out with these things now? Its not like he still plays. If he is going to make rash comments, why not make them a week or two from the first ashes test 2009?

Monty is no where near the level Warne was and he never will be but he is the best spinner that England have had in a while and is quite capable of bowling magic balls. I do think though that he needs to vary it a bit more like Vettori does.
Prior I don't rate as a keeper and whenever there's a knick or a stumping chance I expect him to drop it not catch it. I think he's a decent batter.
