Aussie's still on top?
« on: December 17, 2008, 08:34:02 PM »

After watching the series in India, and now the series against the Saffies I feel that they are 'loosing touch'.  They look sensitive at the top of the order but they make up for it in the lower order?

What are your thoughts on the "world number one's"?

They are no way number one material anymore. SA will win the test series and overtake them for sure, I dont think SA have lost a test series since 2006 have they? (Might be wrong)

Aussies have lost a lot of their best players and the new guys just arnt stepping up to the plate!

Well they look like their on top at the moment. I think the Aussie's are still no. 1 but the Saffies are a very close 2nd.

I think the top 2/3 (SAF, AUS, IND) are very close, and can all be number 1's  on their day.

I have got myself into bother for my views on this which I expressed on CSF. I don't want to go through it again, (Hopefully Bob Martin isn't a member here) but India are top of the bunch at the minute, not only is their record good, but they seem to be gelling as a unit and have a fantasticly cool skipper. Zaheer and Ishant are gem's and I can't think of a left armer as good as Zaheer for a long time. The Fab Five are now the Fab Three and certainly Gautam, Yuvraj, Bhaji and Zaheer are stepping up. Promising signs as India are now officially 2nd.

As for Australia, their bowling is weak, Lee hasn't been himself and there aren't Mr Consitents in Warne and McGrath for Punter to throw the ball to, and his captaincy has been badly exposed over the last few months. Batting still as storng as ever though, Katich, Haddin, MC  and Symo are really producing the goods atm.

Nothing like a contradiction;

"India are top of the bunch at the minute"
"India are now officially 2nd"

They are only not officially top because Australia have a massive lead which they had built up over previous years, India are today's number ones I think (not dependent on previous years records) based on this year's performances.  Are they No.1's in the ODI format? Maybe

It's the fact Australia are more consistent, lets go on stats, in test matches over the past year India have won 40%, hardly number 1 in the world material. Same goes for ODI cricket I'm afraid, both Australia and South Africa have the better record. So I'm afraid I'll take whatever you say with a pinch of salt, until the statistics prove India to be the best side in the world.

http://content-uk.cricinfo.com/england/content/story/377475.html

Even the English are admitting it! Flintoff, Alec Stewart, Rob Key, Bob Willis, David Lloyd just from what I have heard from commentary and articles I have read.

These are the people playing against Australia and SA!

Perhaps one day you'll learn the difference between fact and opinion.

Adam, let me give you a hand on that:

Opinion: a personal belief or judgment that is not founded on proof or certainty; "my opinion differs from yours"

Fact: a statement or assertion of verified information about something that is the case or has happened

Now Adam, there is also a difference between opinion and bias, which you clearly seem unable to understand.
Bob might not be here, but I am, so do your worst...

India I think don't perform well enough when they go on tours out of the sub continant to be considered no.1 and that is just my opinion.
