Well I recently sprained my ankle badly and I can finally walk on it again now and I'm still a long way off playing cricket again. When I do come back I'll need some sort of support on my ankle as I don't fancy doing it again as it'll be very weak, especially when I first start playing again.

Can anyone recommend a very sturdy ankle support?

get a pair of high ankle asics, as good as any ankle support.

I did think about buying some bowling shoes because of the added ankle support, however ankle supports are a lot cheaper and they are something I could use when I get back to playing football again.

Agreed on the boots.

I have tremendously weak ankles, 2 of them. I don't like ankle boots so use ankle supports made for martial arts and wear football socks pushed down. This provides support to my ankle and makes it feel secure.

It may be worth strapping it up on the first few occasions to lock it in place.

Do strengthening exercises such as standing on you bad ankle with your eyes closed. Whilst doing an activity makes it harder. Really helps. ALso resistance bands exercises are super. I Have several others I still do too which maintain the strength.

If you are worried at all drop me A line as have recovered from many before I got proper physio with above help and had next to no problems since!

Ankles will keep going If not properly fixed first time or will have a higher chance of going. As I said drop me A line as know the strapping too which may be of use.

I have some ankle supports, not sure what size I've got, but their on eBay now. I think they're medium. Search for LP ankle supports. And it's the same tag name as the one I've got from this forum

Anyone used one of these before? Recommend? I've got some other McDavid stuff which I've found to be quite decent.

I would try Bio-Skin supports http://www.bioskin.com/Ankle-Bracing.html, they are expensive but they do wonders for support and comfort. I have severe knee problems and bio-skin give great support, my physio highly recommends them.

Yes you can, I got mine through my Physio in the UK. Maybe get in touch with one to see whether you order through them or buying online from websites like - http://www.ossurwebshop.co.uk/ankle-foot/cat_10.html

They are expensive but are much better then those LP ones.

Thanks, I had just found that website however I was just scouring the internet to see if there were any cheaper places to get it from.

I think it'll be worth it purchasing something that's going to offer very good support as I want to start playing again asap and my ankle is getting better by the day, so when I do eventually come back I'll need something like this to give myself the confidence to use my ankle etc...
