We have to use the league printed readers balls
and they last about 8 overs and then they are soft and useless...

The first cricket box was used in 1874.  The first cricket helmet was introduced in 1974. So, it took 100 years for men to twig that their brains were also worth protecting.

Not a fan of the Readers Balls, over lacquered and don't swing. Stay reasonably hard but that's all.

But they do massive discounts to leagues, who get a healthy revenue stream from selling them at full price.
