The best one I played in recently, the umpire gave two wides that got rapidly shouted down. One went past leg stump. But passed between the batsman and the stumps. The second hit the batsman's pads.

not an lbw issue but in a recent game myself and the keeper were sure that i had gotten a batsman out stumped but not given by their umpire at square leg. Then in our innings our opening batsman was given out stumped by their umpire and out opener was convinced he was behind the line. When talking to their scorer after the game he admitted that their umpire cheats as 'every other team does it' - seems to be a very bad way to play the game!

LBW is becoming a bit of a nightmate.  To be fair, its a pretty nasty one for umpires as well.

Has anyone noticed when a LBW is given that the fielding side thinks is 'plum' the batsman stands there, shakes his head for a bit and walks off very annoyed.  The umpire is then branded a cheat by the batting side for giving a shocker.

Its unfortunatley just one of those ways of getting out that the batsman never thinks hes out and the bowler/fielders always thing they are out.

So very true. The batsman is always convinced he wasn't in line.

Has anyone considered not using the LBW law @ the level you play your cricket ? If both skippers agree then no issue.

I had that a few years ago! Wide called which passed between the stumps and the batsman, who had backed away to leg!

The umpire said I had been consistantly, and unfairly spearing the ball into the batsmans pads. I said would he prefer if I tossed it up underarm to allow the batsman to hit it for six.
He called it "leg theory" (ie bodyline)

I'm an offie!!

Its embarrassing enough to think we play at such a low standard that we dont have umpires...but to then admit we dont play LBWs either..... Thats cricket for people who cant play cricket properly.

I've played cricket in a tournament where this was in play. I scored 30 off the first over I faced as I could stand in front of the stumps and swing across the line. The bowler was bowling a middle stump line.

Makes it very hard to bowl as everything has to be outside off stump due to there being no chance of hitting the stumps without movement.

Yes this is how the game would be played Tim but it does cut out all this on going moaning about LBW decisions which crop up everyday on forums when a batsman feels robbed.

Realistically I'd rather have an occasional moan about a bad lbw decision, then turn up to bowl knowing im never going to get an lbw OR a bowled!

May as well remove the stumps altogether!

The stumps are there for Hit Wicket and Run Outs aswell as Bowled.

Dont forget stumped!! And also, it allows the players to know when lunch is, when the umpires take the bails off.

So yeah, your plan is pretty flawless!!

How many keepers do you know would stand up to try and take a stumping when LBW is not applied ?

Not all games (outside serious) take lunch plus the umpires do not have to remove the bails to signal lunch.
