Face Masks
« on: July 04, 2011, 01:32:17 PM »

I know this has been talked about before, but I played against a lad yesterday using an Aero P2 and thought it was really good. I tried it on after the game and it was much lighter and more comfortable than a helmet.

This season I've been hit in the grill twice already, and I find the helmet gives me the confidence to watch the ball longer and prevents "flinching". I do get dizzy spells though and it is very tiring keeping under a lid especially as I stand up to all our bowlers other than the 2 openers.

So anyway, does anyone have any comments on the Aero v Gray Nicolls masks?

Aero masks are far better as the gray nics ones are just hockey face guards and don't have the same level of protection for me

I have an Aero P2 mask and have never been able to get on with it, not even worn it in a game actually because I found it so uncomfortable. Haven't seen any keepers in local cricket using them at all and have never seen the Gray Nics one up close.
I personally find my Albion helmet much much more comfortable.

There is also this point! I have only started wearing the lid this year but I do find it makes me more confident especially on dodgy pitches.

I have worn the aero in a match and nothing was said plus our current keeper wears one

Totally agree roco and if mine fitted me properly then I would wear it. Must have a massive conk as it won't let the thing sit right.

I think it was getting a split lip when the ball flicked up off a bail that changed my attitude. The potential for a top edge too.
Tried on as many helmets as I could find and have no visibility problems with my Albion.
You clearly must have far bigger balls than me though  ;)

I saw a keeper get hit with a bail which cut his eye up pretty bad so I would rather be safe on the occasions when I keep be smart not brave

Our keeper got a cracked cheekbone off one that pitched on a length and jumped. Not much you can do, but now he wears a helmet!

Played against a keeper wearing one of these. He was standing back and kept it on, one of their bowlers got one to really nip through. It hit I'm on the cheek and laid him out. Would have been nasty if he wasn't wearing the the aero mask
