a little concaving is good in my experience as it seems to allow for a better balance to the bat and allows more wood to be put where its needed imho! but then i don't claim to know a great pile

I remember having a conversation in ask the batmaker about this with Norbs. At the time he stated it was basically a vanity thing and doesn't really help the performance of the bat. In terms of looks I agree with him totally. My best looking bat is the laver with pretty much no concaving (Dynadrive excepted ;)). My best performing bat seems to have concaving, although certainly no shark's fin, and I haven't tested the Laver yet. Personally, I prefer without, I'd say, but each to their own...

Within moderation. I don't like too much of it.

Love a GM Purist, but also like the Icon. Doesn't bother me really.

i like concaving but at the minute enjoying the none concaved bat in a heavier weight which gives me more coverage.

I feel the concaved bat is a inform batsman bat who expects to middle the ball more than often

I feel for modern day cricket coverage is more important so although my newreserve has a smaller amount of concaving it is not as extreme as usual.

Not a fan of it myself at all that's why I tend to request no/very little concaving as like some meat in my bats

Whilst I'm on here...

Example: you order a 2lb 9oz bat... one with concaving one without

The starting weight on both the clefts is the same.

The one with concaving doesn't have more wood then the one without.  You don't magic wood onto the edge of the bat.

The concaved bat will have a slightly wider middle and be less susceptible to twist [that last bit is debatable] The flat back will have a slightly longer middle.

do they really have a wider middle if it is extremely concaved as the one i used at the weekend the middle was very narrow.......

Depends mate, if a different roller is used to create the less curve on the face then you can start with a high weight cleft. With extreme concaving you can reduce the middle to just spine and the edge as that is where the wood mass is.

In general I would say it would be down to the pressing of the bat more then the shape though, as it could be hard pressed and needs loosening or soft pressed and needs hardening.  You could probably tell either way by how it felt on the hand when playing shots
