20 grain GM Apex
« on: August 23, 2011, 01:28:30 PM »

I saw a 20 grain GM Apex. Even more surprising it was a 606 and hadn't been bleached. Tempted at £84 but couldn't really get the Apex profile, who does it suit?

Apex has replaced the hero so would guess a driving bat

I miss read your first post mate. Where you wrote who does it suit, I thought you was asking the question who would like it...

I picked up an Apex in the shop and it was a nice bat. It's not got a low swell point like the Luna, or one that is higher up like the Flame and Icon. The Apex is in the middle of those bats. It's a general all round bat, whereas the Luna is more for those who like very low middles, and the Icon and Flame are aimed at those who like higher middles. Plus the Apex has a nice arch as well. Depends on your game and how it feels when you pick it up. But that's not always possible if you don't have a good cricket stockist near you.

But this GM chart might help;

Apex has replaced the hero so would guess a driving bat

I thought the Luna replaced the Hero?

Since the Hero had a very low swell, and the Luna is now the only GM bat with that. Plus Graham Smith used the hero, now he's using the Luna; so I suspect it was the Luna that replaced the Hero.

Just going on what the gm boys told us as I loved the hero and had one so asked them about it and they told me the apex had replaced it

I bought a cricket bat from there a good few years ago, nice cheap kahuna that picked up beautifully.

I thought I'd further add that I saw a 13/14 grain Apex 404 today at Sportsdirect. Very heavily discounted to £32, tempted to buy but it was a pretty specked/knotted face and I have enough bats as it is. At the risk of adding 2+2=5, does anyone else suspect the Apex is on it's way out to be replaced by a new bat?

It's been in the shadows of the successful Icon and Flare. I've rarely seen an Apex used in a game against me, or for my team..
