Back injury rehab
« on: September 23, 2011, 10:52:06 PM »

Hi there,

After my first game of the season, my lowerback was injured, specifically the lower left hand side. Throughout the course of the season I'd give it periods of rest, try it again, fail, repeat process, until the beginning of August I decided to cut my losses and just give up on bowling properly in the season completely. I've now given it pretty much 6 weeks rest from bowling, and am now wanting to strengthen that part of my back, as I am heading to Durham University in a week or so, and want to be fighting fit for their trials.

I was wondering if anyone had any past experience of this, and the best way to help the back get stronger than ever. I'm mainly looking for stuff to do in the gym, but if you have any other potential remedies, I'd be delighted to hear what you had to say.

Cheers.

The only thing that has ever helped me is pilates. It takes time but it sure does work

The other thing you should get checked it's your bowling action. Damage to that part of your back is often caused by a slightly mucked up action where you twist between your legs and your back.
