John Newbery invented the GN Scoop and the Excalibur, Millichamp was his apprentice.

John left Gray Nics in the early 80's, to set up Newbery. I believe Tim Keeley may have also worked at some point for Nics.

Well apart from the bats from the 1700's I still believe the Excalibur was the first shoulderless bat...lol

So John learned his batmaking from Gray Nicolls?

Does it mean Andrew Kember also started off Gray Nicolls?

Yes. Len Newbery (John Newbery's father) was one of the original bat makers at Nicolls, prior to when it became Gray Nicolls.

I believe Kember was just at Newbery. But may be wrong.
