Just got back from first net for nearly 8 years, god it felt good to bat again, okay it was in a 3rd eleven net but its a start.

Why did I ever quit cricket. Roll on next week, but I know I will ache in the morning. lol

Had first bat/bowl since September yesterday, Batting-Good. Bowling-Horrendous! Aching now, but should be fine after next week's session!

I'm hoping that 'Round of Gold' is not a typo and you are referring to Thatchers? ;)

As a new team I have been running nets since October, wanted to make sure the team knew each other by the time we play our first game.

Now I have the running of nets spot-on. 2 and a half hours
Net 1 Bowling Machine
Net 2 Spinner
Net 3 Fast bowlers
Net 4 One-on-one batting coaching (with the local Pakistani Pro/level 3 Coach)
Three batsman rotate between the three nets and if we have time at the end we have a quick game of tape ball (the young kids love that).

The team has bonded really well and I am getting loads of new players wanting to join.

Superbly well organised.... Need to sort ours out later as tricky when we have 5 adult teams and 4 nets and no idea who will turn up!!

One thing really helped was that I took a blank book with me. As some of my lot would always turn up late, then want to bat. Now I get the most respected player to sign players in as they turn up, they put there name in the book and there money in to a box.

We then bat in the order they are listed in the book, if we complete the list, we start again, No body is late and nobody leaves without paying.

I use the bowling machine to time how long each player spends in each net.  when I have finished the bucket of balls they move to the next net.  I try to get the them 15-20 batting, but it depends on how many turn up.  Most nights we get 20-30

We need the practise as one of our first games is against the Might Hosk

Had our first ones on Sunday, think we were the first cricket team in there this year as the matting looked like it was corrugated having been rolled up for so long, made for "interesting" batting conditions!
As a club that struggles for batting we managed our normal thing of attracting a couple of new bowlers  :( ah well the more the merrier.

We're struggling big time this year for nets. THe bloke who owns the ones we use every year has died unfortunately and the family don't want to keep it running. So that's 4 adult teams and a full youth section with no winter training. Gonna be an interesting start to the new season in a newer, better league. Shame really because I was coaching the adult teams as well.

The Ridings School in Winterbourne. Been there a couple of years now and it's generally good plus they've added a bowling machine this year.
Where do ODCC net?
