Sods Law...
« on: April 10, 2012, 09:57:23 PM »

Had our first proper training session tonight and, as sods law dictates, I've managed to sprain my finger! We were doing fielding practice and the light was fading and a took my eye off the ball on a flat catch and it went right into the tip of my index finger on my right hand.

At the moment it's a bit purple but after taking some Ibruprofen the pain has dissipated a fair bit. I'm pretty certain it's not broken or fractured as I have a good range of movement, I should imagine I've just sprained a ligament. It's particularly annoying as I bowl right handed...which involves this hand (obviously) but I bat left handed so this is also my predominant batting hand  >:(

Anyway I'm hoping it should be mainly fine in 72 hours but wanted to see if this had happened to anyone before as there's a match I really want to play in on Sunday and want to know if I'll be o.k by then! Also advice on strapping it whilst batting if possible would be appreciated!

Thanks
W

Play through the pain, don't strap the finger whilst batting, although a good idea to do so when fielding and bowling if you can get away with it.

What Mike said, if you want to play, you'll play!

I play a lot of football and quite often pick a few niggles up on my hands being a keeper.

I find strapping any finger that is injured with this stuff...

...helps enormously. Should give you a little bit more support and padding, although you will loose a little movement.

I've had to tape up my wrist for Rugby after spraining it and the key is to make sure it's not too tight.
