Had a bit of a clear out over the last season and a half and got rid of lots of old bats that weren't getting used.

Only bat that survived was my Laver, which is now entering it's 5th season.

It felt as though I was due a new bat, so have also bought a new CF custom.

Trouble is now that I'm stuck for which one to use. The Laver is awesome. Should I keep using it until it dies? It doesn't have anything wrong with it at the moment, no visible cracks developing or anything like that, so no reason to think it might break soon.

Or should I be brandishing the new willow? After a few hours knocking in and a couple of nets, plus throw downs it feels just as good as the Laver (which had set a high benchmark).

So would you stick with an old faithful or use your brand spanking new stick?

I find it's worth biting the bullet and having a bash with the new one, Johnny.
Otherwise you'll never really know what it's like. Once the toe's dirty and there are a few smudges from mistimed balls on the face then surely it's time to use it as much as possible before you get a new one ...

It depends how much the Laver has compressed/died, if it's still fresh then use it, but if the CF is already feeling the same after knocking and nets it will surely overtake it after a few more nets and matches.

The CF I got from you is quite brilliant but a few months ago I received a GM Icon 909 in a swap and was amazed by how much I like the profile and how good a bat it was. How do I decide which to use? I just pick up one and on match day and crack on. By rotating between 2 bats im ensuring both are knocked in well and utilised.

Older bats simply get sold or traded but I am keeping an AS V3 which is the benchmark of the best rebound on a bat ive owned. Old bats will have memories of runs but im not sentimental.

That is right, after using both you will know which one you feel more confident with and use that one

I'm tempted to rotate them until I make a decent score, then stick with that bat.

Or take Mike's view that the CF should keep getting better and go with that

ah okay, maybe it is time to break in the CF then, I would go with Mikes view thast the CF can only get better
