Played my first game of the season on Wednesday evening for my village team. Almost the best possible start, had we not lost. I was asked to open the bowling which was a shock but we were missing a few regular bowlers. First ball was short and wide which the batsman duly smashed, but only into the chest of our close in cover fielders chest. He held onto it and the batsman trudged off in disgust!
They got 118 which was more than they should have on a slow outfield. We started too slowly, including me, and we slipped well behind the run rate. We needed 75 from the last 8 overs. Then needed 4 to win off the last ball which our star batsman got caught out off on the boundary by one of our own players who we had lent them as they were short. I'd gone in at 5 and finished 54 not out. Much better start than last year's first ball duck that I got. Just a shame we didn't win.
