2012 Bat Range - 1xViceroy and 1xMarlborough G1+
« on: May 08, 2012, 06:23:30 PM »

Gents

We've got two bats to go:

Firstly, a Viceroy which was made to order as a potential T20 bat for our range. Unbelievable grains (genuinely 1 in a 1000), weighing a smidge under 2.12 and with a great profile (36mm edges).

Secondly, a Marlborough - weighing 2.95 and with 38mm edges. Great bat, great looking face.

Both £240 posted (or £230 if you live near enough to Cambridge to pick them up). Let me know if you're interested.

Chaps, I saw the Blenheim stuff yesterday, including these bats and they are every bit as good as they look. Pads and gloves are top quality and the bats are awesome. That Viceroy is an outrageous piece of willow!

I know this is a question some brandsdon't like to answer so if you don't want to say or you can't then I understand but I would really want to know who actually makes these bats before I bought one....they look lovely which makes me want to explore further but without that information I would never buy one... ;)

That's fair enough, we are quite happy to tell people who buy bats who makes ours - but there isn't much point in revealing it here for no reason, and just because plenty of the forum badgers just like having a good gossip!

By your logic you'd never buy a GN/Kook/Bradbury/Adidas/Puma then, as you can't be 100% sure who has made it?

If I wanted an off the shelf bat I would have no issues going to any of these makers.....I also know who makes Puma and Bradbury bats and I know that Adidas and Kook are made in Asia so have no interest for me at all.

I actually want to buy a handmade custom bat and I am merely pointing out that I would never do that if I didn't know who was actually going to make it for me..... ;)

Would you buy a handmade suit from a company that won't tell you who is going to make it or indeed where it was going to be made....? No, thought not....

If someone told me that my bat was going to be hand made in England I can genuinely say that I wouldn't care at all who the batmaker was. Why would I? All I care about is the quality of the stick! Not to mention that most places that hand make bats in the UK have multiple batmakers anyway and machine cut much of their work, so making decisions about bat purchasing on the supposed 'batmaker' is a fraught practice at best anyway.

To be fair I can completely understand if you personally really care about the exact batmaker maybe because you prefer some individuals pressing and dislike others, and I guess that is your point, but all I would say is that I think you're very much in the minority. There are always going to be good and bad bats produced by all batmakers - even the best will produce 'bad' bats, if only because clefts are hard to judge for their quality. So that is why I wouldn't really care who the exact batmaker is...

And as I said, if you buy one of ours then I'll tell you who made it!

Also you're doing well to know exactly who has made every Bradbury and Puma bat you pick up because over the last few years they've varied a fair bit!

Ahh, but if you were buying a handmade suit you would meet the tailor when he was measuring you up, if you didn't like him then you could always walk out the door before parting with your cash!  I'm sure the guys at Blenheim would let you know if you picked up the phone or visited and discussed what you are looking for!!!

It's really not that strange that someone would really care about who makes their bats.........that's why professional players sticker up bats made by their favourite maker and don't just use what their given....!

Anyway, all I was trying to find out was whether you actually made the bats yourself and I think it's fair to say you don't so you have answered my question. And, like I said, they do look really nice....

Most buyers won't care, but on here they will.

I do find it incredible to think that anyone could say that it doesn't matter who makes the bat YOUR paying for! It does matter and I think I am probably NOT in the minority...

Fair enough. But given that brands that don't have a single known batmaker such as GN/Kooka/Adidas probably dominate over 50% of the market and GM machine shape for another good portion of the market, I'll conclude (reasonably confidently) that you're in the minority. But please prove me wrong and we'll change our strategy!

Also on your other point - players generally don't care who makes their bats. Sure they might like a particular supplier, but generally speaking it is the supplier they are linked to, not the batmaker.

There is abt 1200 members on here, few hundred on other forums...there are over 6 billion ppl in the world...even if 1.5 billion played cricket we are all still a very very very small minority...and there are very few ppl outside of forums who care abt who made the bat...

i am genuinely interested in knowing who made my bat if its made in the UK, why? because i have some favorites like most do...but before i joined here it was based on what brands i trusted and not who their bat maker was/is
