  • If I only could bat....
H4L 666 Monster, lhlb
« on: July 04, 2012, 08:06:46 PM »

Having owned this bat for a while and failed miserably to use it, I've finally knocked it in and had a few nets, and what can I say. I'm very pleased that no one bought it pdf me as it's rather good... I guess the pick up and balance are just what I like, and the middle seems to be just where it should be, such that I'm able to consistently find it.

It's a lovely pieceof willow that will serve me well and I'm pleased Matt brought it to Mt attention. Stunning to look at and use.

Here are the pictures you've seen before!

Tim, since you have used SH previously how do you think LHLB makes a difference in shots being middled etc ?

It's an interesting question and I'd suggest that the key difference isn't inmiddling the ball. AS a tall bloke I always used a short handled bat with a relatively low middle, so hitting it wasn't that hard. The areas where it really makes a much bigger difference are stance at the crease, which is upright and much more comfortable, and with Yorkers, which it is much easier to get down to with the extra length.

Is this another case of a 'keep bat, use bat over time, ooh nice bat' shocker?

This sounds quite interesting to me as I'm 6'3 and struggle with yorker length deliveries when batting. I'm absolutely sure that most of my problems are caused by simply playing the wrong shot or my bat not coming down straight but a longer blade might be a good idea for me.

How tall are you Tim? How much longer is a typical long blade?

I was hoping to swap the ss that I've got in the for sale section for a lhlb and this seems to confirm it would be a good idea.

Not really - it was always a nice bat, I just needed to get it into use - and knock it in.... All of the ones that I have are nice bats as those who have used them will attest to.

One of the guys who bowls at me regularly prefers me to use an SH bat as he finds it easier to get the ball under it.

I'm just under 6'5". You might find a long blade is better than LHLB, but you can always hold an LHLB nearer the blade. Activinstincy have some cheap Rogue 650s in LB at the moment:http://www.activinstinct.com/cricket/bats/adult/kookaburra-rogue-650-cricket-bat-2012/?aff=aw&awc=2485_1341479482_6bdf0f59f0647549422cdc80b80df822

Very - £89.99 for a 650 is an excellent deal, however they aren't something I'd buy as I don't seem to get on with Kooks terribly well.
