I picked up a near identical one in that very shop only the other day....it's a beauty! Myself and the Hosk were admiring it...

It will be the same bat, they said it was the 2010 model. What was the grainage and pick up like? The pics are not great but the pic shows about 50% heartwood

Haha I have that problem mate. Have to keep an eye on my bats otherwise they tend to be out in the middle without me knowing

This is my favourite - a mix of traditional and modern with smaller edges but no concaving and a slight bow.  Shame I haven't had chance to use it yet with all the sodding rain  :(

Not really bothered about profile tbh, as long as it picks up well and pings don't really care. The performance all comes from the pressing.

Grainage was good but nothing astounding...about 7/8 straight grains....these oversize clefts they use are rarely pretty though so I wouldn't judge a Distinction on looks. Pickup was excellent....I wanted it!

Here is a question influenced from Joe's statement.
Norbs, is the over riding factor the pressing to the performance of a cricket bat?

Also not convinced with some of these "new" thick edged designs. OK for clubbing , but surely timing and bat speed is king?

I think it definitely is - people go on about how SCATs perform so well, if I got a batmaker to replicate a SCAT series 1 then if the pressing is not that important it would perform as well surely?

And by this you indicate that JM does his own pressing?
