OK, having slept on this, the decision has been made: NO DOUBLE DIPPING.

Tushar, I think you were right to ask the question, and I don't actually think it's greedy to have done so.  However, as it is, our (minimal) resource is stretched to the absolute limit to fulfil all the orders anyway - especially the knocking in - and if we're offering 30% but taking 2-3 weeks to send everything out, it all seems a bit pointless to me.  The last thing we want is to become another Pro Direct!  :D

Had there been an overwhelming majority wanting to double dip, I may have felt differently, so I was curious to check all the responses, but it seems like the majority is actually against it, which has made this decision a lot easier...

Thanks Paul and I do appreciate you atleast considering. Let us know when some M&H gear is in would be looking for another bat as my match bat has decided to crack at the shoulder.

That would be nice but t doesn't work like that... You have to take into account the cost of overheads too... e.g lease/rent, electricity, labour, freight + cost of goods. So it's is more than just selling it for more than you buy it for, if it was it would be easy to make money.

If he buys something for £10(including shipping) and then sells it for £11 after giving the 30% discount then gains £1 which he can use to help pay the rent, electricity bills etc.

I'm not saying it is easy to make money however selling 1 item at a 30% discount is far more beneficial to IJC then not selling anything(aslong as he sells the product for more than he payed for it including shipping).

Let you in on a little secret I work in Electrical Wholesale and for us to break even we have to make 21% on cost... That's before we even start making a profit. So buying something for $10 and selling it for $11 isn't actually making money. It's not as straight forward as it all seems.

I think Paul offered a great discount on here, allowing folk to buy kit that they might have only admired from afar previously. Not only that, he actually ordered new stock where possible to supply demand. Obviously he has a business to run so you can't genuinely expect it to be open ended. As they say in some stores 'when it's gone. it's gone.'

My parents had a retail business and it was pretty similar for them - across the year, the cost of running the business (staff wages, overheads etc) was 25.5% on cost price or 125.5% total, though this would have been much higher had certain "high ticket" items been removed from the equation.  I don't know what the "mark up" is on sporting goods, but their list price tended to be between 190% and 230% of cost price.

iIf those numbers transferred accross, which I'm not saying they would because the latter figure came from some very lucrative import lines specific to their business, then you'd be talking about 130% and 161% cost respectively.  So on the lower end, you'd be talking pennies in profit...

Of course, there is the argument that this sort of thing generates custom that might not otherwise have existed (I, for example, would be unlikely to consider top of the range M&H bats!) and I can guess at other benefits it may bring, but it remains an offer that is generous to the point of insanity!

Cheers for the replies, guys - all interesting stuff.  This offer hasn't been about making profit for us, as many of you will know.  I won't reveal the exact figures, though...  ;)
