I think it is impossible to give this guy enough praise and plaudits.

Could not agree more Mr Buzz ... But SA players don't do well in world cups and while they might get there in the rankings Mr Kirsten would need to guide them to the holy grail in order to take his place at the top of the pile...

I agree - if I'm not mistaken he doesn't have much coaching credentials either, am I correct?

Credentials are not te be all and end all mate. It appears they are only useful if you aren't an ex player. Everyone else gets the good jobs by being good players and he was a good player! And he's a good coach!

I understand but credentials are essential (imo) and they are what makes your resume a good one.

It doesn't really mean a great player would be a great coach, for some it works but for most it doesn't.

As a employer initially(when he began coaching) I would have been skeptical in hiring Kirsten as a coach because I would not know how good of a coach he would be

He must have had some credentials as India picked him as their coach.. I will have to do some digging and see what I can find..

But if he did not have credentials he does now... And let's not forget white lightning the bowling coach...

What credentials can a coach have besides his coaching levels?

His credentials would have been he was a tough disciplned player and that is how he coaches, he manages people well and works hard.

he seems to be very good at providing a gentle guiding hand to teams of strong characters...

Indeed, there was a piece in the telegraph a few weeks ago, which described him as a hugely effective man manager, who appears to be adored by those he coaches. His first team meeting with the Indian team, he said about 6 words I think. I think just like Flower, and Woodward he's a facilitator more than a coach!

I don't know exactly, but I don't think it was anything quite so strong. he just facilitated the team meeting and let them all speak, without saying anything himself. It takes a guy with immense self confidence to be able to do that, and not feel like he's not doing his job and being value for money!
