Illegal in all forms I believe, but you can use the bat to the end of its natural life. Same with carbon handles if I'm correct

The guys i bought it from said you can use it at school  and club but not 1st class .

"In 2006, a company introduced cricket bats with a thin carbon-fiber layer on the back which were used in competitive matches by high-profile players (e.g. Ricky Ponting and Michael Hussey). The carbon fiber was claimed to increase the durability of the bats, however they were banned from all first-class matches by the ICC in 2007"

I belive law 6 and any subsequent laws relating to 'the bat' are related to all cricket!

The carbon fibre backed bats can be used until the die outside of FC cricket. Whilst they're illegal to make now, as they weren't when first introduced they can be used still.
