What I am disappointed by is the spin options - Fat Sammy should be nowhere near, and I'm not convinced by Panesar either.  Would have preferredto see younger options tried - Kerrigan, Rafiq perhaps?

Even though Monty out bowled swann last time England played in similar turning conditions?

I'd have Taylor in for Morgan, other than that I like the squad, glad Compton has got his chance it's much deserved.

No offence guys, but Carberry has had an absolutely shocking season, if you wanna pick players in form you cannot seriously consider picking him. Last year I may well have done. Not this year though, not with his lack of runs. Feel sorry for Taylor, thought he'd get a gig. Think Compton the man to open up, can't not play a man averaging 100...

Not sure that Monty did that quite as conclusively as people made out - he still didn;t manage to answer the questiosn that always dog him - the ability to be something more than economical, and to catch being the key ones.

I thought he took more wickets than swann last winter too, which is after all how you win test matches. I'd undoubtedly play them both anyway. Admittedly his fielding is far from brilliant but the likes of McGrath, Walsh, Murali and Mustaq were no Jonty Rhodes' either and they didn't do too badly in international cricket

2 5-fer's in a row wasn't it? I don't think Monty has any questions to answer regarding his bowling....it's the rest of his game that causes him problems!

Rome burns brightly, huh?

It's amazing that after the continuity of selection over the last few years has fallen away to reveal the 1990s pandemonium of picking people because they've got a few runs or are too young.

I agree with Pedals re: Root and Monty

Well they can't really pick Strauss, and who else other than KP and Rav Bop has been selected recently and is now left out?

I'd actually say they have stuck to their guns, giving Monty and Fat Sammy another chance each and sticking with the lad who has done well for the Lions in Root.

Perhaps England have realized that this is a tour that they wont win hence why they are taking a punt on so many new faces, blooding them and getting ready for NZ which they should comfortably win.
India will be well fired up for this series and id be impressed if England even won one of the Test matches.

India are in transition too, so I think it has the potential to be a better series than many seem to think!

I'm not sure there's many others they could really have picked tbh, Root's is the spot most open to debate, and there aren't any outstanding candidates.

Just read that briggs only got 5 championship wickets this year so it was a sensible decision to leave him out.

Reports in Aus this morning that the Sydney 6ers are going to look at signing KP for the Big Bash now he's been left off this tour.
