one technical point which helped me was to turn the back foot to face the bowler, allows you to get more chest on and hit the ball at arms length. Saw Cameron White do it today and he smacked it!

I am not sure I would advise this as it will square you up and make you a bigger target... but find a method which works for you.

I've got a coaching book (a very old coaching book) which shows both feet pointing towards the bowler for the pull shot! I tend to be back and across and swivel on the shot so this is close to where I end up but to get there before the ball reaches you I've always thought was a big ask

Vaughan and Ponting always used to roll and swivel with the ball catching it on the way up and almost always looked to hit it for six. Vaughan down under in 03/04 was a exhibition in pulling the ball.

If you look at the foot position of international players when playing the back foot pull or hook shot or back foot drive that should help you out. Just copy the top players, it works for them

Practising with hard, short throw downs from a tennis ball is definitely one of the best ways to practice. Back and across with your feet is definitely the best, but also try and keep the mindset that, within reason, and with good footwork, you can pull on length as much as line. Try and play the ball out in front of you to let it get too big on you to stop top edges/facial rearrangements

If you get into the right position, you'll find instinct will play 90% of the shot for you to avoid getting hit in the face.

Cricket isnt an exact science like mathematics, it is more of an art so i wont say that keeping your backfoot sideways is wrong. I use the method of turning my backfoot towards the bowler/cover to open up the shoulders, keep teh head forward in the shot, get a better sight of the ball and allow the hands to get higher and come from point to square leg at arms length. I was thaught htis by Gus Logie and Desmond Haynes fover an 8 week period as i was struggling opening against 85mph. It worked for me and i often see the top internationals doing it so it must have some credibility ...

sachin .. foot pointing down the wicket

matthew hayden ... back foot down the wicket

ricky ponting foot pointing down the wicket

Virat Kohli foot pointing down the wicket

Hussey .. foot pointing down the wicket

shahid afridi ... back foot pointing down the wicket

michael clarke ... backfoot pointing down the wicket

Gordon Greenidge savagely pulls with his backfoot pointing down the wicket

andrew strauss backfoot pointing down the wicket

JAyasuriya ... backfoot pointing down the wicket

Sehwag backfoot pointing down the wicket

jaques kallis backfoot down the wicket, although there are shots of him with his backfoot side on

brian lara backfoot pointing down the wicket

Viv RIchards with his backfoot pointing down the wicket

Garfield Sobers ... backfoot pointing towards cover/mid off

there are countless examples of the back foot pointing down the wicket when pulling and hooking.

every single one of those pictures is from after the shot is played.
not getting into position, which is more important.
nice shots though!

All those are from after the ball has been hit, I'd say it's almost impossible to keep your foot parallel with the crease as your whole body swivels playing the pull shot, so those photos don't necessarily show how they have their feet to play the shot

A while ago, I was taught it was all about footwork when playing the pull.  Now, I just see ball and whack ball.  I don't bother thinking about what my feet are doing.  If you try and complicate things, like thinking about your body/foot position, you end up not focussing on the ball and either miss it, get hit or get out.  If you see it banged in short just belt it out the park!

This would have to be the first time in his entire career Sehwag's foot movements have been used in an educational and training capacity.

Off-side? An awful lot of pull shots are played to balls on the off-side of the body
What I mean is that there is a temptation to get the left leg outside leg stump and swipe across the line, which isn't good. The further across your stumps you get the easier the pull shot is.
