im my team from last season playing in the 2nd and 3rds there were lots of young lads, me, and 2 maybe 3 adults. now we had some very promising talent but the Capitan (not a fan of his) was NEVER out all the time and when he would be sent packing he would go mad, i mean mental! now some of these lads (and lasses) are 13? 14 maybe? how can a adult man going mental help them in the slightest? im not saying every decision was wrong but it was pretty much 50/50 over the season of right and wrong.

Lucky for me when i was needed for the 2nds i would go out and do square leg and chat with the other umpire to learn the trade so to speak.

All the rage at the moment - last season I called a dead ball because the bowler knocked the bails off in his follow through. Our skipper told me that it wasn't a dead ball - my excuse was that I don't know all of the rules (and if he wanted someone else to umpire I would happily relinquish the coat of shame). As to the rules - he was correct I think - ah, but you see, where I lead, others follow!

we normally only have officials but with games when we don't yes i have given mates only if i was a 100% sure and it was overly obvious.. otherwise.. im a real bad ump!

I take pride on giving out my friends! They deserve it for batting higher up the order than me....the more I give out the more chance I get of having a bat!

I hate having to umpire in the league, and never give an LBW unless the batsman has committed "back foot suicide" as we call it.

On Sundays I personally don't want to ruin peoples day so never give any LBWs (only being a friendly). Have a mate however who's finger is up before the bowler has released the ball, he loves watching us walk back to the pavilion after a poor decision, especially if he scored more runs than us!

He gets told it too regularly, with my batting ability I'm never too bothered when he gives me LBW off a forward defensive, we've usually lost by the time I have to get my pads on anyway.

Ive given my old man out on a sunday, LBW. Id been put in down the order a bit so had to umpire. I jokingly said i would give LBW so I could get a bat.

I gave 2 LBWs, one to a rubbish batsman and then my Dad. They were both pretty plum though, back leg so didnt really have a choice.

I came in and scored the winning runs with a classy 9*
