Could this work?
« on: November 14, 2012, 02:41:53 PM »

Just been thinking abt all the bat shapes, concaving vs convex, high spines and big edges etc so was wondering if anyone has thought about a shape like this? Either a Luna style thats the full length of the blade or just straight lines...where the concaving is never below the edge level and there is no spine but more like a curved hump back...sorry for the poor drawing skills but hope it gets the idea across...

you control the weight by increasing or decreasing 3 things.... size of the edges, height of the "spine", width of the spine...change pick up increasing or decreasing the fade/slope of the spine near shoulders and toe...

Well a luna modified, although i like the straight line spine better than the luna style curve...

Part of the reason for this was looking a Slaz double spine bat and it looks like a oblivion or any other bat with a lot of concaving and slightly wider middle...having used a oblivion (although a low end one) i did not enjoy it...it seems like if you missed the middle by even a little bit the bat would rotate in your hand as rest of it was so thin due to concaving...

Probably need a router to do the edges like that though...  Either that or youd need to be pretty handy with a chisel!

Yeah thats one way of doing ...make a bat that has 65mm edges and no spine (flat/curved back like tour or master) then take a router and start taking wood off the back edges of the blade till you reach desired weight...end up with 30-35mm edge and spine width of maybe 3-1.5 inches...i dunno what would be the end result in weight

You'd need to shave the toe down a bit to improve the pick up, otherwise it'll feel like a railway sleeper!

You'd need to be a great bat maker to get them shapes perfect!

Curve those edges and it's a Luna.  Why don't you drill small round holes in it and then other would be a puma .

This could be a brilliant thread if you could draw a bat and we had to guess it.

Well i figured since we haven't really seen any "New" shapes it might help ignite those creative minds...i understand and have stated that this started similar to luna but if you think of it more like a traditional shape bat made first, then you start removing wood from these channels to introduce concaving...

and what you said then in the same sense Luna was similar to a scoop where the scoop was split in two halves and moved to opposite ends of the blade...there needs to be inspiration ;)

wasn't there a GN bat with a similar shape to that? it had grey stickers on the back.
